Who Should Attend
This educational program is intended for oncologists, radiation therapists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists and other physicians in active clinical practice interested and/or involved in the management of patients with thoracic cancer. No specialized knowledge or skills other than a general familiarity with cancer and its treatment is required for successful participation in this program.
Objectives
After successfully completing this continuing medical education program participants should be able to:
- Understand the latest epidemiologic trends in lung cancer, including lung cancer in women
- Update their knowledge in lung cancer staging, as well as factors determining response to treatment at the time
of presentation
- Gain insight into state-of-the-art management of rare thoracic tumors, including mesothelioma, bronchoalveolar carcinoma, and mediastinal tumors
- Develop an approach to diagnosis and management of neuroendocrine tumors of the lung
- Adopt a case-based approach to the management and treatment of patients with all stages of small cell lung cancer
- Update their knowledge on supportive care issues in patients with lung cancer
- Learn current information on the diagnosis and management of bone metastases in lung cancer patients
- Derive optimal treatment approaches to NSCLC patients with poor performance status
- Understand the biology, mechanism of action, and clinical use of new agents to treat lung cancer, including immunologic and targeted therapies
